Josh Hughes uses the emerging technology of 3D printing alongside other media to achieve conceptual ends. In Hughes’ contemporary artworks he is attempting to create objects which center on simple conceptual frameworks such as the perception of angularness and or squareness. His desire to create these works comes from his determination to make sculptural artworks which are literal, non-referential, and play with the concept of pictorial illusion. With these techniques Hughes recasts 3D printed objects as uncanny reflections of contemporary culture. Hughes often uses his experiences as an U.S. Army Combat Veteran -- Intelligence Officer and Interrogator to collect, analyze, interpret, and disseminate cultural expression.
